I agree that Rich Dad, Poor Dad is a must. Too many live just beyond their income, and never attain the position of true financial freedom. Too many are counting on somebody to provide their income, such as Social Security (what a joke), or minimally funded 401k, or a pension from a generous employer, instead of taking control of their destiny.

Your question, "How long could you go without working?" is very thought provoking. And would be a wake up call for many. It is far too easy to get caught up in the consumer product frenzy that drives most of the US economy. It takes real fortitude to resist the constant marketing that goes on.

Another highly recommended book, which espouses a similar financial philosophy, is "The Millionaire Nextdoor" which is also easily available and inexpensive.

The bottom line is that those who consistently live below their income, save, and wisely invest regularly will find the peace that comes with financial freedom.

Another great book that I was directed to was "The Science of Getting Rich" by Wallace D. Wattles. Now I realize there is a lot of hype online right now surrounding the title of the book, but I read this book many years ago and realize that I should have studied and read it again and again. Then put the principles into practise on a daily basis.
However 'better late then never' applies to me in this case. :-)
And I am now starting to see small results ...tiny... but still there and that is the important part. It's all about the babysteps that eventually turn into the giantsteps!
Thanks for a great blog Gabriel with such good content.
